Scout by Land: This area of the forest is severely blighted. A DC 10 Perception check reveals that one or two enormous and aggressive predators reside within this area, and a subsequent DC 15 Survival check reveals it to be a pair of Dire Bears, most likely mates. A DC 15 Perception check reveals that the source of the blight is southeast of here. A DC 20 Perception check causes the Scout to find their cave, their current location; the two animals are both severely blighted as well.

Scout by Air: A DC 10 Perception check reveals that this area of the forest is severely blighted. A DC 15 Perception check reveals that the source of the blight is southeast of here. A DC 20 Perception check reveals that one or two enormous and aggressive predators reside within this area, and a subsequent DC 20 Survival check reveals it to be a pair of Dire Bears, most likely mates. A DC 25 Perception check causes the Scout to find the two bears prowling through the forest; both of them are severely blighted as well.

Two dire bears, one male and one female. The two bears attempt to “corral” the PC’s in between them, granting them flanking and hampering escape. If a bear successfully grabs a PC, the grabbing bear always attempts to pin the PC (against the ground) before making further attacks against it, while the other bear focuses on the remaining ungrabbed PC’s.

The path to the bears’ cave is very easy to find. Inside the cave are three corpses, upon which the party finds their loot.

Halfling Corpse: +1 Titanic Full Plate, “sized” for the halfling. The armor automatically resizes to “fit” its wearer.
