The Nightmare Rider
Scout by Land (DC 15): This whole area is dry and burned, filled more with husks of trees than living ones. The not-infrequent charred skeletons cradled in the nooks and crannies of burnt roots suggests a flash fire, but where are all the skeletons’ heads?
Scout by Air (DC 20): The fire in this area was decidedly non-natural: long swaths appear to have been burned into the ground, creating streaks of obliterated ash that cut clean through the foliage in beelines. The streaks get more frequent near to the old stone bridge that crosses the river.

When the PCs attempt to cross the bridge, a cauchemar nightmare plane shifts into existence, charging for them. Atop it rides a dullahan, appearing as a headless, burned skeleton clad in charred full plate that appears to be itself made of burnt bone. Its longsword is derived from what appears to be a sharpened giant’s tibia but glints with a wicked, flaming edge.

Dullahan (this dullahan is a minor variant: its natural cold damage is replaced by fire damage, and it currently wields a +2 flaming burst longsword, giving it 1d6 of fire damage instead of 1d6 of cold on its attacks. When both are defeated, the corpses burn like thermite and are disintegrated, but a set of loot appears in a burst of flame in the middle of the bridge: the dullahan’s set of bone +2 full plate, bone +1 flaming burst longsword, a set of nightmare boots,
