Scout by Land: This area of the forest is rife with tall grass growing between the trees. A DC 20 Perception check reveals multiple carcasses, all stripped clean of meat and currently being picked at by timid scavengers. A DC 25 Perception check reveals tracks; a DC 15 Survival check pegs them as belonging to some large cat, a DC 20 Survival check pegs them as belonging to a Dire Tiger, and a DC 25 Survival check allows the Scout to determine that this specific Dire Tiger is particularly dangerous (Advanced, to be precise). A Perception check opposed to the Dire Tiger’s Stealth check is required to notice said Dire Tiger stalking the Scout through the tall grass — the Tiger will not attack, however, until the entire party enters the hex.

Scout by Air: This area of the forest is rife with tall grass growing between the trees. A DC 15 Survival check reveals that this is the hunting grounds of a large cat, a DC 20 Survival check reveals that this is the hunting grounds of a Dire Tiger, and a DC 25 Survival check reveals that this is the hunting grounds of a particularly dangerous Dire Tiger. A DC 15 Perception checks reveal scattered carcasses, but a DC 25 check reveals the Dire Tiger itself stalking prey through the tall grass.

As soon as the party enters the hex, the Dire Tiger makes a Stealth check and stalks them. It waits for the opportune moment to strike, ambushing the party and pouncing on the “meatiest” party member (it especially likes Dwarves). If there are any Gnomes in the party, the Dire Tiger will “play with its food” rather than going for full lethality; a DC 15 Perception or Sense Motive check is required to notice this.
